Hi guy's..Thanks for being with us.

Short introduction info about our site "Song-makes-musicbusiness.com".

So,a few years ago I decided to created this website to share all the knowledge that I 'I've gathered through the years. I always say that I can't learn how to write a hit song, because if there was a recipe for hit songs, every one would writing hit songs, and hit-songs would become normal. Compare it as if everybody would know the winning numbers of the lottery..and hit the jackpot..

What I do is giving advice on how to promote, and record your songs as a professional would do. Also, I try to find resources that accept demo submissions, and that's probably the biggest work, and also very highly targeted by our site's visitors..

Our site "Song-makes-music-business.com" in numbers.

We receive about 9 to 10,000 visitors monthly.. and about 15,000 returning visitors..

Most of our site visitors, about 65 %, is coming from the United States, 5% from the UK, and the rest from Europe, Australia, Canada China and more than 100 other countries..

Our website has 186 pages online..home page included.

There are also the Back Issues. These are the newsletter in the past published. These stay online on our site.. Every visitor that comes to our site can read them..

Article: New ways to protect your music..

Writing songs to put them in a drawer makes no sense.. So, you need to take action and promote your songs the best you could.. A common mistake that songwriters are making is to start to promote their music without protecting their material.. This could have disastrous consequences.. It's always difficult to prove that your songs are original, but when you don't have any prove that you are the creator of these..

How to protect your music, songs..?

Best way to start is to a member copyright organization, or performing rights organization in your own country..

In the UK there are P.R.S.. In the U.S. for instants, there are a few copyright organisations.. To find US copyright organisations...

OK, that's a start..

but it's better that you also take other options to protect your songs..In the past I recommended to record your music to Cd's and then send them to yourself.

Now... Technique is changing .. There are SD cards,USB sticks.. SD carts are that small so they can easily be put in an (closed) envelop.. The date on the postmark will be a guarantee that the music is yours.. when problem would appear.. This is the cheap and simple way to protect your music..and it's all done by yourself..

Also more and more you'll find services on the Internet that register your music and this is also a form of protection of your music.. These services cost money.., but if you have to go to a court room, you have a real good service to back-up you and your music.. Some songwriter associations provide a copyright service.. But to become a member of these associations you need to pay a yearly fee.

I still find the "sending a letter to yourself" the best way and the most easy way to protect your music of theft ..

Now, copyrighting your music is not a waterproof system.. After-all, music exist out of 7 notes..and most of the songs you hear on the radio are using the same chords.. So the possibility of ending with a same product as the competition is rather small, but still it is a possibility that you can never exclude.. But it's better to have something ( even if it isn't waterproof) than to have nothing at all..

I think that it's something that you have to calculate, and that every songwriter will have to deal with in his career.. On a good day you will hear a song on the radio that has sounds similar to one of your songs..Now, The question is: Has the author of the song that you hear on the radio, has he involuntarily, while he listened to your song, be influenced by your song? (Or is it other way around?)

Has he or she shameless plagiarize your song? Or could it be just coincidence that this song sounds almost the same as your song? In most cases it's just coincidence..Like I said, there are only 7 notes to work with and thousands of songs that have being wrote the last years use the same chords.. But to be honest, I sometimes here songs that could be charged with theft for reason of plagiarism, because the similarity is so obvious..

Of course that's not my problem, but the problem of the owner of the work..He must consider if taking matters to courtroom is worth the effort.. I think in most cases it is..If a song is played on the radio that you know for a fact sounds the same way as an original hit song from a few years earlier, well then the owner (publisher, songwriter) should take steps against it..It's something that never should need to happen..

But fact could be that record companies, or publisher have made a deal so that the song could be re arranged and released with some changes on it. But permission need to ask first, otherwise you risk of be penalized by court with a fat fine and all the expenses that has been made in court..

Also,if you have doubts that a song of yourself is original, then ask others to verify if that particular song is really original or that the risk to publish and release the song is too big.. Being carefully is the message..

Why I'm telling you all this, because I experienced the same thing. I hear on the radio a song that sounded similar to a song that I wrote. But I never over reacted. I quietly thought the whole thing over and I concluded that neither me or the other could have known of each others songs..My song was recorded earlier on my computer, but never being published, and it was merely the refrain that has the same similarity as my song..

In short, things that are important:

Copyright your songs before promoting

Check if your songs are really original.

Don't act to fast if you think that your song is played on the radio.. Calm down and reconsider if it really could be plagiarism from your music..

Thanks for being with us..Till next issue
