The guitar as your instrument of choice!
When you start writing songs and you have chosen the guitar as your instrument, than the best thing you can do is to start with an classic-guitar.
Why? Because, when you just starting, you have to see and feel if this is the right instrument for you.
If you change your mind and want to change afterwards, you haven't spend a lot of money for an instrument that isn't right for you or doesn't fit you or whatever reason it maybe.
On the other hand, if you have a friend or some family member, who has a guitar, and you may play and learn on his/her instrument. Better for you, of course.
You find out if this instrument is yours or not and you don't have to spend a dime.
So, up to the next step.
You have learned to play and all goes well, than you can go for an acoustic or an electro-acoustic. You can stay with the classic of course and as long as you want. The rule is that there is no rule.
If you go for an acoustic than this is for you.
the acoustic-guitar!
Is a modern form of the classic guitar, but generally strung with steel strings for a brighter, louder sound.
More expensive instruments feature solid wood tops, spruce. Sides and backs often rosewood, maple or mahogany. Lower-priced instruments can combine solid tops with laminated backs and/or sides.Entry-level guitars are usually made entirely of laminated wood.
Necks and fingerboards are usually made of denser, stiffer woods such as mahogany, rosewood or ebony.
The various combinations of the different woods and their quality, along with design and construction elements are among the factors affecting the timbre or "tone" of the instrument.Due to decreasing availability and rising prices of the premium-quality woods, many manufactureres have begun experimenting with althernate species. For example, some makers have also begun producing models with red cedar or mahogany tops. Some have also begun using non-wood materials, such as plastic or graphite.
Most luthiers and experienced players agree that a solid top is the most important factor in the tone , also solid backs and sides can also contribute to a pleasant sound, although laminated sides and backs are aceptable alternatives.
Another style of acoustic-guitar is the archtop. This is most commonly used by swing and jazz players, and often incorporates electronics in the form of a pickup.
One variation on the standard acoustic guitaris the 12 string guitar, which sports an additional doubling string for each of the traditional six strings. This instrument was made famous by artists such as Huddie Leadbetter, Pete Seeger, and Leo Kottke.
