Digital Music Recording!
The digital music recording is one of the most
important things to do, when starting a musical career.
Afterall, your songs and music
are the lifeblood of your future songwriting business.
Normally the first recordings happens at home, into the calms of your bedroom, living room,...a quiet place, were you save tunes and songs on your computer or an other recording device.
You may say that
with the digital music recording of your song material, your music career has began.
As I already mentioned, the first recording of a song, a tune or melody, will be a rough on some quiet place into your home.
Then, you'll write your lyrics that you think that will go together with a
melody.
There, the first step has been taken,up to the next one
After you have been recording a dozen or so of your songs, you'll make a
selection of your digital music recording on your computer, and you'll add the best on a promotion
CD.
OK,I'm telling you this in a few words, but in reality, this can take some times weeks
or even month.
But again, the recording of your demo is an other, more complicated story.
Your promotion demo recording
First of all, a few words about the recording of your promotion demo .
Add only three or a maximum of four songs to your demo. So,you gonna have to make a selection of your best songs to include them on your promotion demo.
That's not an easy task, because
for you (and for every other songwriter ) songs are our baby's and have all an equal value.
Add your best song ( or think that is your best song )first, then your second best. With the
best I mean the most commercial sounding song . Remember,
Money comes first in the music business, and bizz not always means
quality.
What's the commercial potential of a song?
That's difficult to say. The commercial potential of a song is for every A&R or music publisher inthe business different. For these people it could t have an other meaning than for me or for youor me. After all, there job is depending of it Normally , A&R people now exactly what they are looking for. They get somefeedback from other people before they even consider to decide to sign (or not). The style of music ( in the first place) and if the material isstrong enough and commercial enough ( or not), only they can tell.
How do you know your song has commercial potential?
Simply pitch out your songs to A&R people and music publishers, and you will know if they respond or not, that's the best and cheapest way to get feedback on your songs. OK, some guy's can give you advice and will assess your songs. Of course ,this will cost you money, and.., without any guarantee for success. But , at the end of the story the A&R executives are having the last word. Your songs will do or not, and that's the hard fact. Ask friends and enemies for a review of your songs, or make a video and up-load it to YouTube.com or Myspace.com.If it's good, you'll get good comments, otherwise...If you do this, copyright your songs, before showing them to the public. I mean, 'before'you make a digital music recording . Or,If you afraid that you will not getting the right reviews by the people I've just mentioned, you can always let your songs get evaluated by a so called professional. Also, you can double check. Let friends, relatives , and other people evaluate your songs. Notice what they say. Even write it down in a booklet if you wish, then take the best five or six songs and let these songs be assessed by a pro. Make sure , when you have your songs evaluated by a service, that they sent you back a written letter of that evaluation . This letter you can be include ( the copy)in your promotion package. This can have a positive influence on the people behind the desk and stimulate them to listen to your songs more carefully. If you want to put more than three songs on your demo. You most have a good reason. One of the reasons can be that you want to show the A&R guy's that you can handle more style's of music. Than, a fourth song can be a good idea. Now , when we talk about the digital music recording of your demo, there are three ways that you can follow.
